Novarium and Fórum Oceano announce a pan-Atlantic partnership

#Canada and #Portugal continue the Blue wave🌊

Novarium and Fórum Oceano announced an Atlantic partnership to bolster ocean investment, accelerate growth in the #blueeconomy sector, and leverage the potential of #artificialintelligence in our oceans.

This collaborative partnership opens doors to startups from #Quebec and Portugal to have greater access to the North American and European markets while helping deploy AI-driven solutions to address the challenges of climate change.

According to Amelie Desrochers, on LinkedIn:

After 1+ year of discussions & inspiration, this feels like an historical moment!

Novarium and Fórum Oceano are announcing a pan-Atlantic partnership
to promote ocean investment and accelerate the growth of the blue economy in regional and international networks with particular focus on Ocean Artificial Intelligence. The co-development of international activities for Novarium, in synergies with projects developed by Fórum Oceano, like Hub Azul and Portugal Blue Digital Hub, will allow startups from both Quebec and Portugal to have greater access to both the North American and the European markets.

Among other things, this partnership allows staff members of Novarium to operate in Lisbon, in synergy with the facilities of Fórum Oceano-Hub Azul Network, to support Quebec startups in the blue economy and to use Portugal as a European launchpad. Novarium will also host Portuguese startups who have specific R&D needs, such as having access to a diversity of prototyping
infrastructures.

This partnership also supports Forum Oceano’s plans to take an increasing step towards the demonstration of AI applications in all sectors of the blue economy, with their upcoming Ocean.AI Summit in September 2024, by tapping into Québec’s renown global leadership in artificial intelligence.

“Portugal is one of the global leaders in the development of a powerful national Blue Economy strategy. We are grateful to have great partners in Canada, with the Embassy of Canada to Portugal, in Lisbon, and in Québec, with the Délégation du Québec à Barcelone, who share the same vision
towards the development of such a promising sector. This strategic partnership has been in the making for the past 18 months, and we’re delighted to finally begin the execution phase. ”
Martin Beaulieu, CEO, La Zone Bleue

“Fórum Oceano, the organisation that manages the Portuguese Blue Economy cluster, has committed itself to an internationalisation strategy based on establishing solid relationships with clusters in countries that, like Portugal, are committed to developing a Blue Economy based on sustainability, circularity and digitalisation. Canada is undoubtedly one of these countries. This is why cooperation agreements with leading Canadian organisations, such as Novarium, are part of the materialisation of our internationalisation strategy. We have a lot to learn from Canada, just as we feel we can contribute to enriching the Canadian strategy and Canadian clusters with practices that we have been implementing in Portugal. ”
– Prof. Antonio Nogueira Leite, President, Fórum Oceano
