About Álvaro Santos Pereira
Álvaro Santos Pereira has served as Governor of the Bank of Portugal since October 2025. Before his appointment, he was Chief Economist at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the OECD’s G20 Finance Deputy, following his role as Director of the OECD Country Studies Branch.
He previously served as Portugal’s Minister of Economy and Employment and has held academic positions at several internationally recognised universities, including Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, the University of York, and the University of Exeter. Throughout his career, he has combined academic excellence with extensive experience in economic policy, international affairs, and public administration.
