Canada tech delegation visits Portugal for Web Summit 2023

Hard to believe that it’s already been a week since the 🇨🇦 tech delegation left 🇵🇹!

Still winding down, from the intense few days supporting a coast-to-coast Canadian presence and promoting our #techecosystems in the context of Web Summit 2023. Quelle semaine!

It’s hard to recap such a busy week! Monday kicked off with the Embassy’s Tech Fusion event at Oceanário de Lisboa, which brought together innovators for a deep dive into 🇨🇦 and 🇵🇹 tech ecosystems, as two welcoming platforms to grow on both sides of the Atlantic 🌊(no #bacalhau were hurt in the process!).

We couldn’t have pulled this one off without our fantastic local partners, Startup Lisboa and Unicorn Factory Lisboa, our inspiring panel of innovators (Alexis Bourson, Kunal Gupta, Chloë Ryan, Martyn Gill) as well as our Canadian partners: Invest Vancouver, Trade & Invest British Columbia, Invest Alberta, Toronto Global, Invest Ottawa, Montréal International, Investissement Québec, and Invest Nova Scotia.

On Monday night, the Embassy held the #CanadaTechMeetup (thanks Build Up Labs – startup studio & incubator!), networking and (re)connecting with valued contacts and friends, from 🇨🇦, 🇵🇹 and all across the 🌎.

Couldn’t have pulled it off without the hard work of our Embassy Team (Joshua Hollick-Kenyon, Malika Lacombe, Fatima Carvalho, Sandro Dinis de Almeida) and colleagues from 🇪🇸 (Alexandra O’Sullivan) and 🇩🇪 (Kathrin Seitz)!

Toronto Inc (Destination Toronto, Toronto Region Board of Trade, Toronto Global, City of Toronto) and Montreal (Startup Montréal, Ville de Montréal, Bureau du Québec à Barcelone (BQB)) had a strong presence on the trade show floor, waving the CA flag and our ecosystem’s ability to attract, retain and grow a diverse, world-class talent, with a strong contingent of tech startups from the #Montreal ecosystem. Canada’s west coast was also well represented, with a dynamic Vancouver delegation (Frontier Collective, Destination Vancouver, Invest Vancouver).

Finally, a special shout out to the 50+ Canadian startups that made it Lisbon et félicitations à Acrylic Robotics, pour avoir atteint la finale du #PitchCompetition!
