According to EURAXESS North America:
“On the heels of today’s news that Canada and the EU have successfully concluded negotiations for Canada to associate to Horizon Europe, we want to thank our great speakers and attendees at last week’s European Research Day. We had the privilege of organizing ERD 2023 with our hosts at the University of Ottawa, promoting Canada-EU research collaboration and funding opportunities.
We had insightful keynote talks from Dr. Mary Kavanagh of the European Commission’s EU Science, Research and Innovation and Stéphane Lessard of Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada, who both underscored the strong bilateral cooperation in research and STI.
Dr. Derya Büyüktanır Karacan and Jackson Howard presented #EURAXESS services and Pillar I of Horizon Europe, and we then heard from an expert panel comprised of Gina Soparlo of Mitacs, Britta Baron of European-Canadian Centre for Innovation and Research (ECCIR) and Enterprise Europe Network Canada , Dr. Milad Asgarpour Khansary of Marie Curie Alumni Association North America Chapter (and an #MSCA alumnus), and Dr. Kavanagh of DG RTD.
After a variety of remarks from the EU and Europe-wide perspectives, we also heard an EU Member State viewpoint with engaging closing remarks from Amb. Eamonn McKee of the Embassy of Ireland to Canada.
The audience was comprised of researchers from the Ottawa area, including uOttawa, Carleton University and elsewhere, the Canadian government, European embassies, industry, as well as attendees from the U.S. who were in town for #CSPC2023 and wanted to learn more.

We extend our deep thanks to Dr. Clotilde Ribaut of uOttawa IREX for partnering with us to make this event possible, as well as the Delegation of the European Union to Canada for its invaluable support.
